2nd Annual Rogers Golf Classic
By Human Resources Department
On Sunday, August 7th, 96 members and friends of the Rogers Corporation community joined together for a very worthy cause.
Despite the day’s rainy conditions, the Rogers Golf Classic raised $10,000 for the Special Olympics of Quinebaug Valley Connecticut.
For the second year in a row, the fundraising event was held at the CT Ntl Golf Course in Putnam, CT. Golfers from all skill levels came to compete, have fun, and raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics. There was also a meal and raffle following the tournament.
The Special Olympics began as a day camp at the home of Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1963. Five years later, 1,000 participants from 26 states and Canada met at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois to compete in the first official Special Olympics. Participants showed the world that their differences should not disqualify them from participating in competitive sports.
In the years to follow, the Special Olympics grew to become an international event, spanning from Ireland to China. On its 40th anniversary in July 2008, 3 million participants joined together from over 180 countries around the world.
We share many of our core values here at Rogers with those of the Special Olympics. Participants learn self-motivation and teamwork to reach their goals. At Rogers, these same values are what drive the members of our community to achieve great things.
We are extremely proud to be involved with an organization that changes the lives of not only the participants, but also their friends, family, and people around the world. This year’s event doubled last year’s proceeds, and we’re looking forward to beating our record again next year.
