In three Rogers plants located in Chandler, Arizona, good things are happening to help disadvantaged kids get ready for the new school year. For most children, having a backpack filled with school supplies is a no-brainer unless you are one of the many children living at a domestic violence or homeless shelter. Then, those items are more of a wish than a reality. Fortunately, several times a year the HR team in Chandler look for local charities to support as a way to give back to the community.
“We look for different organizations to support each year”, stated Nancy Young, Human Resources, ACM Division, Rogers Corporation. “In the past we’ve supported a food drive, senior citizens during the Christmas holiday, we try to do something when we can.”
“We wanted to find a community service opportunity that would coincide with our employee appreciation lunches in July, and discovered a need at A New Leaf, a local charity that offers assistance to homeless and domestic violence shelters. We invited employees to make donations either with gift cards, cash, or actual school supplies to help our local kids who live in the East Valley,” said Jean Hopwood, Human Resources at ACM Division.
As a result of the drive, the employees donated 29 backpacks filled with school supplies and $175 in gift cards to A New Leaf.
